Note that killing apps in the Quick Launch screen does NOT necessarily kill the app's background process. All it does is kill the copy on standby in memory that is not using power or data. If the app is a built in (mail, messages, phone, game center, twitter, etc) its background process restarts immediately. For downloaded apps if they can receive notifications the notification will restart their background app even if they do not show in the Quick Launch screen.

The correct way to block background apps is to go to Settings/General/Background App Refresh and turn off the ones you don't need.

  • Step 6: A new ChromaCam window will pop-up on the screen allowing you to choose a background and adjust a number of parameters including Filters, Slide and Blur level. Select a background and make the adjustments, if required. Step 7: Once you have set a new background, just minimize the popup window and you’re done.
  • If I turn off background app refresh then I won’t get DoorDash notifications for status updates on my order unless I keep DoorDash running in the foreground.1 Advertise Here.

If an app still gobbles up too much data or battery power on a consistent basis while in the background, you might want to turn off background app refresh for that app. Open the Settings app, tap.

Instead of using the Quick Launch screen to kill apps, why not use it for its intended purpose; fast switching between apps without having to go back to the Home screen and navigating to the next app you want to use? While in any app, double press the HOME button, then scroll to and tap on the next app you want. If you are going back and forth between 2 apps this is especially effective, because when you double-press HOME the previous most recently used app will be centered.

Dark Mode is a dramatic new look that's easy on your eyes and helps you focus on your work. Dark Mode uses a dark color scheme that works system wide, including with the apps that come with your Mac. And third-party apps can adopt it, too.
